
Getting the Heat Right for Your Husky HyPET
When you’re running Husky HyPET systems, you’re playing a game of milliseconds. Every tiny fraction of a second matters. To get a consistent blow, you need the infrared energy to actually get inside the thickest part of the PET preform. The trick is doing that without scorching the surface. It’s a delicate balance of depth and intensity, and that’s exactly why we build our quartz lamps the way we do. The struggle with penetration Here’s the thing about standard IR lamps: they tend to dump way too much energy on the outer skin. You end up with a surface that’s too hot and a center that’s still cold. That’s where “cold spots” come from. And we all know what happens then—your walls thin out or the whole thing just bursts during the blow cycle. To stop that, we tweak the tungsten filament density and the quartz mix. We shift the wavelength so the heat skips the surface and sinks deep into the material. Running high-speed lines Our tubes are designed to be drop-in replacements for Husky OEM specs, so they fit right in. But since we’re dealing with high-wattage density in a tight space, the heat load on your oven is massive. Just a heads-up: make sure your cooling blowers are up to the task. If they aren’t, you’re looking at overheated lamp ends and filaments that burn out way sooner than they should. The nitty-gritty of the build We use high-purity quartz glass because it can take the thermal shock of rapid cycling without cracking. We also machine the connectors for a snug fit. Why? Because a HyPET machine vibrates. A lot. If a connection is loose, you’ll get arcing at the terminals, which can weld your sockets shut or pop a fuse. It’s a headache you just don’t need. Plus, we’re all about raw output. If you want to shave a few seconds off your cycle time, we can adjust the filament length and diameter to bump up the wattage. Just keep in mind that pushing more power through a shorter tube puts more stress on the quartz. You’ll get the speed, but the lamp might not last quite as long as a lower-wattage version. It’s all about what your production line needs right now.
