
Making Sure Your Replacement Lamps Actually Fit Your SMF Blower
When you’re swapping out infrared lamps in an SMF blower—or pretty much any PET heating system—the last thing you want is a “universal” part that doesn’t actually fit. We’ve spent a lot of time making sure our lamps just work. No hacking, no tweaking. Just a clean, drop-in replacement. Getting the power right Here’s the thing: PET preforms are picky. If the wattage and voltage aren’t spot on, you’re going to have a bad day. You’ll either end up with plastic that isn’t hot enough to mold, or you’ll fry the filament in record time. We spec our tubes to hit those exact loads. High-wattage tubes are great because they keep your cycle times fast, but just a heads-up—make sure your wiring and power supply can handle the draw. Nobody likes a tripped breaker in the middle of a run. The nuts and bolts of the build We use heavy-wall quartz glass because these things go through a lot of thermal shock. It’s a brutal environment. To keep things simple, we stick to R7s or Sk15 connectors. Since these are the industry standards, you can just pop them in without having to rewire your oven or mess with the holders. We also add a special coating to the quartz. It helps push the shortwave radiation straight into the preform. It keeps the heat where it belongs and stops it from bleeding into the machine frame. Real-world maintenance These lamps take a beating. Between the heat and the constant vibration of the blower conveyor, it’s a tough gig. When you’re replacing a burnt-out lamp, precision is everything. If a lamp is off by even 2mm, it sits crooked. That leads to uneven heating, which leads to deformed bottles. It’s a domino effect you want to avoid. And a pro tip? Keep your reflectors clean. A layer of dust can kill the efficiency of even the most expensive lamp. Give them a wipe, and you’ll notice the difference.
